You can count on my word
If one thing is abundantly clear, if you live in Iowa and you know your neighbors, it is that they see through any sham. A student at my desk several years ago said, "I hope you never change. What I see here is what we need in government."
People who serve in office must understand that in Iowa you cannot change your ideas from audience to audience, or from one county to another. You must say the same thing in one town as another, in one city as another, in one county as another. Changing your comments is deceptive. Otherwise, when people talk they will ask, "Did you hear what he said in my town? But he said this in your town."
I am consistent in my positions, ideas and convictions. I treat everyone the same. I stick to my word. Clients ask that, students ask that, neighbors ask that, and voters ask that. Of course, it has been easy for me to be straight because that is the way my Mom and Dad taught me. And that is the way I conduct myself. That is what I will take to Congress for you. I will not take facts out of context or use old statistics to support public statements. I will be consistent with my message from town to town, city to city, county to county, and from Iowa to Washington, D.C. I will listen for the best ideas, state the facts, and work hard for all the people in the 5th District.
